A Utah native, the cougar or mountain lion is a common but only very rarely seen species.

Cougar

The cougar, Felis concolor, is common throughout Utah. They are secretive and rarely seen, blending in well with their environment. Cougars are carnivores who's diet generally consisting primarily of deer. Rabbits, rodents and other animals may also be consumed. While many fear cougars but,attacks are extremely rare as cougars are reclusive and avoid people.

  • Length:  Up to 7' 10" including tail.
  • Height:  Up to 35" tall at shoulders.
  • Weight:  Up to 220 lb.

Where to Find Them

The below list of places are places where cougars could possibly be seen. Seeing a cougar in the wild is incredibly rare.
