The Desert Cottontail

The desert cottontail, Sylvilagus audubonii, is common throughout the desert areas of Utah. They can be found up to 6,000 feet of elevation. Cottontails are herbivores, with up to 90% of their diet consisting of grass. Their large ears make up 14% of their body size and help with thermoregulation in hot environments. The desert cottontail is a prey animal and can be a significant source of food for any predators in their environment.
