Lake Powell's Best Best spots for spring stripers: The mud line out from Hite Marina, the face of the dam and the power plant intake (midway between Antelope and Navajo canyons) Best spots for smallmouth: The coves on Good Hope Bay. The back of North Wash is also a good spot, close to Hite. Best times to visit the Lake: April/May and October/November. Summer months are hot and the lake is crowded. (The water feels delightful in summer but it's too hot to hike in most areas). Winter days can be pleasant, particularly for hiking, but it's too cold to play in the water and fishing is slow. Best Map: Stan Jones Boating and Exploring Map. It's available at all marinas and many sporting goods stores.
Best place to see carp: Dangling Rope Marina, as shown in the photo at right. Fish come into the docks near the store expecting to be fed scraps of food. They are mostly carp, with a few stripers and an occasional catfish, crappie or bluegill. |

It provides good descriptions of the major canyons, along with historical information and
