Trailhead: N 38 Deg 34.966; W 110 Deg 48.167

Little Wildhorse Canyon is a great, relatively easy slot canyon located on the edge of the San Rafael Swell near Goblin Valley. It makes a great hike for families and youth groups. The trailhead is signed and easy to find. A short distance above the trailhead, the canyon forms. The recommended route is to take the left fork up Bell Canyon, route-find across to the top of Little Wildhorse, then hike down Little Wildhorse to the trailhead. Alternately, you can hike up and back in either canyon. Little Wildhorse has a more exciting slot but Bell is also a fun canyon to hike. Route-finding between the canyons is easy. You follow an old road part of the way. The Bell-Little Wildhorse loop is about 8.5 miles total.

Hiking in either canyon requires a little scrambling but rock climbing and rappeling skills are not needed. However, there is plenty of opportunity to scamper up canyon walls - one of the reasons kids love this hike. People of all ages enjoy this hike but youngsters under about age 11 will probably need some help. Fall is the ideal time to hike because the weather is usually dry and daytime air temperatures are pleasant. Fall nights can be chilly so be prepared. Spring can be good but there will be water-filled potholes after storms. Summers are hot. However, much of the hike is in the shade. Summer hiking can be pleasant during the morning hours. Always carry water, regardless of the season, and never enter the canyon if there is danger of rain anywhere in the drainage. Flash flood is the primary danger here. The road to the trailhead is graded occasionally but can have deep sand.
