The Drowsy Water Ranch

Nestled in the high country of Colorado, at 8,200 feet above sea level, the Drowsy Water Ranch offers quite solitude for the guests to relax, ride and learn more about the everyday life f the good old West. This colorful and authentic “Dude” Ranch style adventure is just a few hours drive from Denver located just West of Granby. This operation has been in business has been family owned and operated for over 30 years and from the time you arrive, till the time comes to pack up and hit the trail, you'll feel just like you've walked back in time to the good day of hospitality and friendships.

Guests usually arrive on Sundays and are treated to a good down home turkey dinner, complete with all the trimmings. After dinner, introductions are given all around from staff and guests alike. It is a refreshing way to get comfortable and begin new friendships and settle in, and the meals just kept getting better each day from there! The cooking staff has old fashioned taste and cooking down to a modern science. Yet many of the meals and recipes have been handed down for generations and are definitely served Country Style in the common eating area. Which also allows you to get to make great new friendships with "new hands" from around the World.

More Turkey Permits - Wildlife Board approves big increase for 2009

The chance you’ll draw a wild turkey hunting permit in Utah just got better.

The Utah Wildlife Board has approved 13,761 public hunting permits for hunts in Utah next spring. That’s an increase of more than 80 percent over the 7,706 public permits that were available in 2008.

Board members approved the permits at their Aug. 28 meeting in Salt Lake City.

“Sportsmen have told us that they’d like more opportunities to hunt wild turkeys,” says Dave Olsen, upland game coordinator for the Division of Wildlife Resources.

Upland Game Guidebook Available

t’s hot in Utah right now. But a sure sign that fall is on its way is waiting for you at your local sporting goods store or the Division of Wildlife Resources’ Web site.

Utah’s Upland Game Guidebook for the 2008 - 2009 hunting season is now available.

In addition to sporting goods stores and the DWR’s Web site (www.wildlife.utah.gov/guidebooks), you can pick the guide up at your nearest DWR office.

“Utah’s upland game hunts begin with the ptarmigan season on Aug.
23,” says Dean Mitchell, Conservation Outreach Section chief for the DWR. “The upland game season doesn’t end until the cottontail rabbit and snowshoe hare hunts end on Feb. 28. That’s six full months of hunting.”

"Practice Random Acts of Reading!"
Our classroom needs books
www.donorschoose.org Project ID: 196281
Posted for Libby Hancock, a 6th Grade School Teacher here in Utah that could use some help.

I teach 6th grade at a public school in a very poor economic area in Salt Lake City, Utah. I teach all subjects and my students do not have the access they need to books, especially high quality literature. I have been trying to build my library, but with the limited money and supplies, it is not growing very rapidly. My students are very receptive to my encouragement when it comes to reading and I am excited to be able to provide them with an opportunity to read great books!

I need books for my classroom. I choose a variety of books to use in math, social studies, and especially to use in my language arts class. These books will be greatly beneficial to my students. Many students do not have books at home or the access to any good reading materials. I want to provide them with the access to a variety of excellent books!

This donation will ensure that my students will have the access to reading material that will influence their education for years to come!

"There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world. Love of books is the best of all."

— Jacqueline Kennedy

If you would like to donate to my classroom library please log on to www.donorschoose.org and put the project ID #196281 in the search box. Any amount would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for your support!

Bear Safety Tips

As summer camping nears, DWR provides tips to keep you safe

Doing five simple things will lessen the chance that a black bear visits your campsite this year:

- Don’t leave food out.

- Don’t scatter food scraps and other litter around your campsite or cabin area.

- Don’t keep food in the area where you’re sleeping.

- Don’t bring items with you that have a strong odor.

- Never feed a bear.

With last summer’s fatal bear attack in American Fork Canyon fresh on their minds, Kevin Bunnell believes Utahns will be more willing than ever to follow that advice.
